KNYSNA NEWS - Oriented Birds Football Club sank newly promoted Infantry School 3-1 in a entertaining Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League encounter at Kwanokuthula Stadium on Saturday 26 October.
Avela "Keita" Qondo and Khanyisani "Mashesha" Radebe (brace) scored for Oriented Birds, while Samnkele Dyasi scored for the Oudtshoorn-based visitors.
With 7 points, the Birds - who have two victories from three games, drawing the third - top the log in Western Cape ABC Motsepe stream B. Infantry School FC are in the bottom half of the log having lost their two opening games.
The game got off to a good start with the visitors building their passes from the centre - trying to get the ball rolling on the ground.
Soaked up pressure
The Birds' backline soaked up the pressure, defending against offensive play from Infantry's flanks.
The Birds then took the game from the visitors, attacking from centre-left of the field - Qondo netted their first goal within the first 10 minutes of action.
Infantry then fought back, looking for the equaliser.
Exciting star
Both sides played an attacking style of soccer. Exciting left-footed young star Samnkelo Saliwe of Infantry was very sharp on the ball, creating space in the centre - spreading the ball to the wings.
The visitors received a penalty after their hard work, on the right side of the field.
Dyasi scored from this, beating Birds' goalkeeper Zakhe Xhotho.
Well-taken shot
The home team started the second half at a fast pace. They were awarded a free kick just outside the box after a dangerous foul by an Infantry defender.
Radebe beat Infantry goalkeeper Sibongile Tshofuthi with a well-taken shot.
The visitors then worked overtime, defending against offensive play by the Birds wingers.
Infantry tried to use their physical strength on the ball, but it was not easy for them to break through the Birds' stubborn defenders.
The Birds players gained more confidence during the last moments of the game, and thanks to Infantry defenders failing to clear the ball in their danger area, Radebe scored with a powerful volley.
The Birds collected maximum points at home.
