FOOTBALL NEWS - The reigning Geolfa League champions, Nelson Mandela University (Madibaz), failed to collect points at home when they went down 3-1 against FC United from Knysna in a Hollywood Bets Regional League game at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 4 November. Christopher Ntswayi, Sinesipho Booi and Simelelo Kayizana scored for FC United while Emile Jansen netted one goal for Madibaz.
FC United kicked off the first half. They were looking dangerous on the ball but Madibaz kept their shape, creating more space with excellent ball control.
The Madibaz goalkeeper, Masixole Dayizane, managed to fend off a powerful shot by FC United's Msimelelo Kayizana. FC United made early substitutions, taking out Asiphe Phantsi and Siphamandla Matha and bringing in the experienced players Sinesipho Booi and Christopher Ntswayi. Both sides played the ball on the ground trying to break through their opponents' defence, but were unsuccessful, and the first half ended goalless.
The second half saw Madibaz setting a fast pace and playing attacking football with Emile Jansen skilfully creating more opportunities for his side. FC United were not deterred and kept the Madibaz defenders on their toes with strong attacks from their strikers. The first and second goals were netted by Christopher Ntswayi and Sinesipho Booi.
Madibaz slackened their guard, allowing the visitors to attack using their pace on the flanks, and Msimelelo Kayizana scored the third goal for FC United to make it 3-0. Madibaz attacked with a strike, but FC United goalkeeper Aziwe Tshandu made a brilliant save.
Madibaz received a free kick on the right side of the field which was taken by Emile Jansen, who scored the only goal for Madibaz.
The central middle-fielder from FC United, Bonga Buyangane, a 16-year-old Grade 9 learner at Percy Mdala High School, played an exceptional game creating chances for his side. He said that he wanted to fulfil his dream of playing for the Dstv Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns.
