CRICKET NEWS - The SWD provincial team will be keen to put their disappointing run chase of the previous weekend behind them when they take on Free State at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn this weekend.
The three-day match will start on Thursday while the limited over match will be contested on Sunday.
In their opening weekend against KwaZulu Natal in Durban the men from the Southern Cape recorded an impressive bonus point victory against the home team in the one day match but in the three-day contest they failed to chase down a modest target of 167 runs and were dismissed for only 108 for a defeat by 58 runs.
In the three-day match SWD will be without their captain, Jean du Plessis, as well as the exciting youngster, Mesuli Vuba, who both are unavailable for this weekend due to exam commitments.
Jhedli van Briesies was also not considered due to school commitments. Du Plessis will however be available for the one-day match and he will take charge of the team.
Tyrese Karelse, who made a half century on debut, will retain his place in the team while another schoolboy, Heath Richards, will make place for Du Plessis for Sunday's clash.
The teams are:
SWD (Three Day): Heath Richards, Kirwin Christoffels, Yamkela Oliphant, Richardt Frenz, Brendon Louw, Neil Hornbuckle, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Renaldo Meyer, Stefan Tait, Bradley de Villiers and Hershell America (12th man)
Jean du Plessis and Herschell America will come into the one-day match in place of Richards and De Villiers. Du Plessis will captain the limited over team.
