KNYSNA NEWS - It was the culmination of a season defined by social interaction, networking and most important, all-round good, clean fun when the Bradach Bruisers met Knysna Cavaliers Cricket Club in the final of the Night League, on Wednesday 14 March at Loerie Park Sports Grounds.
Moments before the toss, organiser Peter Heyns took some time to speak to the Knysna-Plett Herald on the sidelines of the most anticipated game in the social league this season.
“This league is in its 30th year and still going strong. It's designed to allow people to interact socially and really get to know each other. It is also a highlight among participants on the social calendar, stretching for a period of six months, between October and March each year.”
The league features 10 teams and has up to 150 players per season, making it one of the biggest SWD cricketing fraternities.
According to Heyns, the event costs about R50 000 per season, which is all sponsored out of the private sector, with the main sponsor, local destination marketing company Africa Complete contributing 70% of funds.

“The teams represented are from all corners of the Greater Knysna community and possibly one of the best examples of sport integration,” said Heyns.
“We are keenly looking for sponsors and every R5 counts – towards equipment, electricity and other expenses. Many of the players need assistance in kit and clothing. We appeal to Knysna residents to enter a team, aid and sponsor. Come support the game and build on an already awesome league.”
The final was won by the Knysna Cavaliers who clinched victory by six wickets.
