KNYSNA NEWS - A group of Knysna Marathon Club (KMC) runners took to the roads of Plettenberg Bay last weekend for their weekly club run, starting and ending at Central Beach.
The KMC club outings have been running since February, and have proved vital for the club's members to keep themselves fit and on the go.
Every week they tackle a new set of challenges, choosing routes of various distances around Knysna, Plett and Sedgefield. A recent run on 18 July even doubled as a Mandela Day project.
For that particular run, 11 KMC runners tackled an 18km route around the Concordia Contour trails that traverse the forests above Knysna, whereafter they cleaned up a 2km stretch of Old Cape Road.
While not a clean-up effort, their latest run was still a workout as they set out to tackle a half-marathon distance of 21km around Plett. A group of 17 runners, including a few from Plett, started and ended at Central Beach.

According to Melikhaya Msizi, KMC club captain, everyone enjoyed the challenges that Plett held for them.
"The run was good with some hills but we enjoyed it and there were nice views of the beauty of Plett," he said. According to Msizi the runs are not only fun but also provide important training. "If the races open again then we will be fit and ready, but we are also building team spirit," he said.
This weekend they will be exploring the roads around Sedgefield.
