KNYSNA NEWS - Young artists from Oakhill Prep School brought colour, imagination and plenty of creative flair to Knysna Fine Art when their Intermediate Phase Art Exhibition opened on Thursday 6 August.
The exhibition showcased an impressive collection of work by grade four to seven pupils, highlighting Oakhill's strong tradition of nurturing creativity and artistic expression as part of its holistic approach to education.
Parents, staff and art enthusiasts attended the opening evening to celebrate the pupils' achievements.
The diverse exhibition featured everything from colourful wax-resist artworks, modelling and ceramics to stop-motion animation and AI-inspired self-portraits created by the Grade Seven pupils.
The Grade Four pupils, meanwhile, demonstrated an impressive range of techniques by combining block printing, paper folding and batik to create detailed bird's-eye view bedrooms inspired by Roald Dahl's The Twits. Their imaginative displays included playful details from the book, such as Mrs Twit's glass eye floating in a bedside glass of water and frogs hidden among the covers.
Prep art teacher Julie Stevenson said the pupils' enthusiasm had brought the exhibition to life.
"The prep art learners' enthusiasm for art has truly brought to life the guiding principle that 'creativity is intelligence having fun'," she said, adding that the pupils had incorporated fundamental design elements such as balance, texture and form while exploring a range of cross-curricular themes.
Oakhill expressed its appreciation to Knysna Fine Art owner Trent Read, Jake Read and their team for hosting the exhibition and providing a platform for the young artists to showcase their work.
