KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna council's disciplinary committee will be recommending that Ward 10 councillor and former deputy mayor Peter Myers be found guilty of leaking confidential information sometime between August and October 2017.
This decision comes on the back of a complaint that Myers disclosed confidential information relating to municipal job applications in 2017.
According to municipality spokesperson Chumisa Kalawe, the committee found Myers guilty of the charge and recommended a sanction in terms of Item 14(2)(c) of the Code of Conduct for Councillors, to the effect that local government MEC Anton Bredell be requested to suspend Myers for a three-month period.
"The recommendation will serve before the council at its meeting in January 2019 for a formal resolution, whereafter it will be referred to the MEC for local government, Anton Bredell for a final decision," she stated.
Myers said he will argue within the DA and in council that the committee's finding is a travesty of justice.
"I state unequivocally that this is a stitch-up and that I have done nothing wrong. I hope and want to believe that sanity will ultimately prevail and that the full council will not agree with this recommendation or proposed sanction."
