PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS AND VIDEOS - A massive fire in Qolweni, Plettenberg Bay started shortly after 16:00 today Sunday 31 August.

Countless houses were destroyed in the blaze along the N2 and an electrical box exploded with the blast heard kilometres away.

Hundreds of people ran around salvaging what possessions they could.

There are no indications yet of how the fire started and if there were any injuries.

Firefighters were still on the scene at about 5:10 pm and Bitou municipality was controlling the traffic along the N2.

Many sightseers gathered along the Plettenberg Bay side of the N2.

The firemen on the scene tried to contain the blaze but an hour later the fire was still burning out of control.
