PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The DA constituency in Bitou announced this afternoon that it has entered into a coalition with two political parties to gain a majority in the Bitou municipal council.
The Democratic Alliance, which holds five council seats, has joined hands with the Plett Democratic Congress as well as the Active United Front.
The parties hold one seat each, which means that the coalition will hold seven seats - the required number for a 50%+ majority rule in the 13-seat Bitou municipal council.
The announcement comes just over two weeks after the local government elections that were held on 1 November. According to the DA's statement, "a number of meetings have been conducted to obtain at least 7 of 13 council seats".
The coalition will go into the municipality's inaugural council meeting tomorrow, 18 November, alongside the ANC, IPM and PA to establish the municipality's speaker, mayor, deputy mayor and whip.
