A mine shaft apparently collapsed, trapping the miners at the mine owned by Vantage Goldfields Limited.
Amcu’s Manzini Zungu says, “About 112 people have not been accounted for. It’s a disaster developing at this stage and we’re very concerned.”
ER24’s Russel Meiring says emergency crews have managed to rescue about 49 people so far and treated them for minor injuries.
“So far 49 miners have been brought to the surface. We have assessed the patients and found they only sustained minor injuries. Mine rescue services are still busy at the scene to rescue the remaining miners.”
