MOTORING NEWS - The new Scirocco model range has been given power upgrade with the introduction of two new engines. The entry-level engine, 1,4 TSI 118kW has been replaced with a 2,0 TSI 132kW engine. Meanwhile, the 2,0 TSI 155 kW is now fitted with the new Golf GTI 2,0 TSI engine that delivers 162kW. The latter also gets the exclusive GTS interior and exterior trim.
The 2,0 TSI with 132kW is available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Its maximum torque of 280Nm is delivered from 1 250rpm. The top speed is 227km and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is achieved in 7,4s. The average fuel consumption is 6,1-litres per 100km.
The 2,0 TSI Scirocco GTS with 162kW is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission which accelerate it to 100 km/h in just 6,9 seconds. It has a top speed of 246km/h and the published fuel consumption in the combined cycle is economical at 6,4-litres per 100km.
The first Scirocco GTS was launched in 1982 and the coupé was based on the Golf GTI both technically and visually. It was recognisable by a strikingly designed GTS stripe (which ran all round the silhouette of the car just above the sill), its distinctive sport seats and a gear knob in golf ball design.
The GTI had the same sport seats (with different upholstery) and the golf ball gear knob. These interior features have been re-introduced in the new Scirocco GTS.
The Scirocco GTS is equipped as standard with new 18" Norwich alloy wheels. In addition, the car comes with the exterior elements of the R-Line package. This includes distinctive R-style bumpers at the front with integrated fog lamps, a glossy black radiator and air inlet grilles, custom side sill extensions, a roof spoiler and a diffuser. The wing mirror caps are painted in stylish black.

INTERIOR
The interior of the Scirocco GTS is customised and dominated by sporty black and red.
The customisation inside includes:
• Black headliner
• Decorative inlays in "Piano Black Lacquer" in the centre console and on the dashboard
• GTS badges on the sill panel mouldings
• Customised sports steering wheel with red seams and the lower spoke finished in "Black Piano Lacquer" with the GTS logo
• Pedals in stainless steel
• Seat covers with centre panels made of a new material with the GTS logo at the top of the backrest and red decorative stitching
• The GTS package also includes the legendary golf ball gear knob
• Chrome trim package for the wing mirror and electric window switches
• Air vents and inside door handles in "Black Piano Lacquer"
• Contrasting red seams for the safety belts, the handbrake lever, the gear lever gaiter, the central armrest and the floor mats
The Composition Media infotainment system, which is available for the first time in the Scirocco model range, is a standard feature in the Scirocco GTS. The 5,8" Composition Media system with colour touchscreen offers functions such as Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phone and audio streaming, a proximity sensor (other menu details are shown when hand approaches the screen).
The system also has CD-player, USB port, MP-3 functionality, auxiliary and SD-card input for external audio source.
The Scirocco GTS can be ordered with optional features such as panoramic tilt sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, high beam light assist, KESSY Keyless Entry, Rear Assist - Rear View camera, Adaptive Chassis Control, Park Distance Control (PDC), Discover Media Navigation System, DynAudio 400W Excite sound system with subwoofer and 19" Lugano alloy wheels.
Price include VAT and emissions tax: 2,0 TSI Scirocco Highline 132kW Manual - R369 900; 2,0 TSI Scirocco GTS 162kW DSG - R439 000; 2,0 TSI Scirocco R 188kW DSG - R494 200.
The Scirocco model range comes standard with a five year or 90 000km service plan, three year or 120 000km warranty and a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are at 15 000km.
The Scirocco GTS is equipped as standard with new 18" Norwich alloy wheels and the car exterior elements of the R-Line package.
