KNYSNA NEWS - On 15 March, a community-led meeting was held at the Hornlee Community Hall to address the allegations of malpractice at the Vermont Old Age Home. The meeting was called by members of the Hornlee community to address the negligence that was uncovered at Vermont Centre and to plan a way forward.
The meeting was chaired by Mark Stevens, and Lindsey Coetzee was secretary of the meeting.
The community members had been informed about negligent practices happening at the Vermont Old Age Home and requested further insight into the matter, as complaints about Vermont have been coming in since November 2022.
It was observed during the meeting that many members of the community want to be informed about what is going on at Vermont Old Home and how it is being run. The community has expressed their concern for the well-being of the residents and would like to find a way forward.
KPH has reached out to a member of Vermont Old Age Home's board, who stated that the matter has been cleared up over the course of two serious discussions, hosted by Eden FM.
"Extensive interviews were held on Friday 17 March where the air was cleared," he added.
In a previous response to the allegations of negligence at the old age home, the community members mobilised and led a protest action outside Vermont Centre on 8 February.
