KNYSNA NEWS  - A 35-year-old man was arrested after the police uncovered a stash of drugs during an early-morning operation in Bongani, Knysna.

The Garden Route Police said this arrest formed part of ongoing crime-combatting operations targeting illicit drug outlets across the district.

The Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, said the Knysna Police had acted on a tip-off at about 04:00 on Monday 20 July. “When the officers arrived at the premises, they noticed a man swallowing an unknown substance. 

They searched the property and found 390 Mandrax tablets, seven packets of cocaine, five packets of tik and an undisclosed amount of cash. 

The suspect was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs and defeating the ends of justice.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment after swallowing the substance and remained under police guard until yesterday, 22 July,” said Spies.

The suspect will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court once he has been formally charged.
