PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – It seems the Plett Rage student festival for 2023 is shaping up to attract large crowds with tickets selling like hotcakes. On Friday 24 March, organisers revealed the dates of this year's Rage (1 to 8 December) and the first phase of their ticket sales. By Sunday these were sold out.
The event will be the second Plett Rage since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Every year, thousands of school leavers flock to Plett to let their hair down after their matric exams and enjoy some top quality music and partying for about a week.
This usually provides the local economy with a boost of between R50m and R90m. Ticket prices this year range between R2 450 and R3 200 for general "passports" that include general access to all Plett Rage venues, activations and bars, and between R3 600 and R4 200 for VIP passports that give festinos various bonuses, including access to VIP areas.
Last year's event started off shaky following large-scale community objection to the proposed new venue, not only because of environmental and safety concerns, but also ones of inconvenience for residents of the area as well as economic losses for the town.
Organisers applied for use of a portion of land in the Roodefontein area on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay to use not only for the Rage, but also other events over the next five years. Past venues have included Plett Central, Central Beach and Ganse Vallei.
Despite the objections, the application was approved. There were however restrictions, including approval for only a year and not five as applied for.
It appears that this year's festival will be held in various venues in and around town.
Details are yet to be released, but Coco Valley, Bikini Beach, Sonic Garden, The Meadows and The Grand have been named.
