KNYSNA NEWS - Not only is the SA Red Cross Knysna poised to assist with a possible crisis should Covid-19 cases increase locally, it has recently become the proud owner of new premises in Trotter Street, from which the local branch of this humanitarian movement intends to relaunch itself as trusted providers of several services, it says.
According to a press statement released last week, SA Red Cross Knysna "is involved at grass roots level, with improving the lives of many in the broader Knysna community, and the Eden District". "Our motto is 'always needed, always there', the statement adds.
"Apart from our First Aiders being on standby to help out at the hospitals should the need arise, we will also be parking our Soup Kitchen caravan in Hornlee where people will, in addition to getting a plate of much-needed food, be provided with soap and hand sanitisers," said Red Cross Knysna's June Stabler this week.
Additional services it intends providing on an ongoing basis (even when there is no national crisis) are as follows:
- First Aid training at all levels.
- Home based care training.
- Empowering the youth with regards to sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.
- Leadership empowerment.
- Clinical advice and assistance.
- Support of the elderly and creches in underprivileged communities.
The organisation says it needs assistance from the public. "We are sorely in need of cash donations, as well as office and training facility equipment, in order to get our new premises up and running. Monthly stop order commitments would enable us to better plan our initiatives," the statement reads, reminding the public that cash donations are tax deductible.
By supporting this worthy cause, donors will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have made a difference in the upliftment of your community, the organisation says.
"Our Red Cross shop will continue to operate as normal, and we will be renewing our fundraising efforts, starting with a cheese-and-wine evening in late April or May.
We are also looking for donations in cash or kind to assist us in hosting this event – cheese, wine, breads, savoury biscuits, deli meats and treats, and vouchers or cash to enable us to purchase what we need," it states. "We thank you most sincerely for any and all assistance in this regard."
