RHEENENDAL NEWS - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde officially opened the new Western Cape Government e-Centre in Rheenendal today (Wednesday 10 JUne) bringing digital services and opportunities closer to residents of the rural community.
The facility, which began operating in March this year, is the province's 83rd brick-and-mortar e-Centre and forms part of the Western Cape Government's drive to improve digital access across the province.
Serving a community of approximately 7 000 residents, the e-Centre provides access to computers, internet connectivity, printing and scanning services, assistance with CV writing and online job applications, digital literacy training, entrepreneurship support and access to government services.
Speaking at the opening, Winde said digital access had become essential for residents seeking employment, education and business opportunities.
"As more economic and employment opportunities move online, digital access is no longer a luxury - it is a necessity," he said.
The centre includes a Business Corner, Public Access Centre and Training Centre, and has already created employment opportunities for two young people from the local community.
Winde praised the efforts of community development worker Devoline Koopman, whose advocacy for improved digital access and youth development helped drive the project.
The e-Centre was established through a partnership involving the Western Cape Government, Knysna Municipality and other stakeholders.
