PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay police have taken big strides in fighting the illegal drug trade in the town, and recently arrested two alleged drug peddlers and confiscated illegal substances, according to local spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse.
She said police arrested a 27-year-old man in Marine Way in Plettenberg Bay on 4 December after he had allegedly attempted to sell cannabis to students.
Pieterse said the suspect, Sabastian Scoltz, allegedly attempted to flee when police set after him, but that he met his match. "Members attached to the crime prevention unit managed to arrest him," Pieterse said.
She added that he allegedly resisted arrest and bit the police officer who arrested him. "The officer sustained an open wound to his thumb." Pieterse said 26 bankies and eight stops of cannabis were confiscated as well as another bag with "loose dagga".
The next day police arrested 26-year-old Denver Kamfer in Qolweni for dealing in tik, mandrax and cannabis. "Police members did foot patrols in the area when they noticed the suspect selling drugs out of a plastic bag in front of his house.
"They confiscated various drugs including 26 tik straws, 23 quarters of Mandrax tablets, half a Mandrax tablet wrapped in foil and 13 bankies of dagga," she said.
Both suspects appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on 6 and 9 December respectively.
