PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay's hopes of reaching the Regional First National Bank (FNB) Football First Development Festival final were dashed this past weekend after a 2-0 defeat to George in the U15 boys' semi-final at Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.
George booked their place in the final against Mossel Bay thanks to goals from Obam Songelwa and Liza Samuel. Songelwa opened the scoring to put Plettenberg Bay under early pressure, while Samuel sealed the victory with a late goal as George advanced to the championship match.
Plettenberg Bay battled throughout but struggled to break down George's disciplined defence despite creating opportunities.
The annual development festival featured teams from across the Southern Cape, with each association electing 20 boys and 20 girls to compete.
Regional selectors used the tournament to identify players for the FNB regional squad that will represent the Safa Eden region at the National FNB Football Festival in Johannesburg later this year.
