SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Community leaders from Pine Valley have complained of the lack of water points and temporary toilets since October last year.
Community leader Thersius Jones issued a media statement saying the settlement’s human rights were under threat as basic services remained unresolved.
“The residents of Pine Valley are outraged and deeply concerned as they continue to be denied access to basic services, despite ongoing court proceedings,” said a community representative.
“The lack of adequate water and sanitation is a stark reminder of the community’s ongoing struggle for dignity and human rights. We are not just fighting for services, we are fighting for our basic human rights to be respected. It is unacceptable that we are being humiliated and left without essential services while the court case is still under way.”
Justice
Jones has urged the Knysna Municipality to “take immediate action to address these issues and ensure that our rights are protected”.
“We will continue to stand together and demand justice,” he said.
Knysna Municipality communications manager Christopher Bezuidenhout replied that, in terms of the interim court order, the municipality is not allowed to deliver services, even temporary ones.
“The order explicitly states that no person is allowed on the site and that they are not permitted to occupy the structures already erected,” said Bezuidenhout.
