PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Local crime fighters had many successes over the past week, recovering stolen items and ridding the streets of drugs.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said that a concerned resident contacted them with information about a person allegedly dealing with drugs.
"The control room operator gathered specifics and target information and then compiled and structured the information in a manner that enabled authorities to execute an operation," Olivier said.
The information was handed over to local police for further action. Officers acted on the information on 23 November and found a suspect in possession of various drugs. The drugs were confiscated and the suspect arrested.
On Sunday 26 November, Plettenberg Bay police arrested a man and a woman in Kwanokuthula for the unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and drugs.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said police responded to information about illegal activity at a house in Sishuba Street just before 11:00.
Officers searched the home and found eight rounds of ammunition, a firearm as well as small quantities of tik and Mandrax in the two occupants' possession.
The 33-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were both arrested.
Drugs confiscated during a bust in Bitou.
On Saturday 25 November, Bitou Law Enforcement officers were doing a routine check on permits at the taxi rank in High Street when officers noticed suspicious behaviour and plumes of smoke surrounding a group of people in the area.
The officers approached the group and searched them, finding a stash of Mandrax tables, tik and drug paraphernalia in the back of a woman's shirt. She was arrested and handed over to local police.
On 23 November, the PBCPA was contacted for assistance of the owner of a home in Zenon Street following a burglary at 11:00. "He tracked the phone [stolen during the burglary] crossing the N2 in the vicinity of Formosa Bay at about 11:16," Olivier said.
Plett Rapid Response members as well as Bitou Law Enforcement officers responded and the iPhone as well as two iPads were found where they had been tossed into the bushes.
