KNYSNA NEWS - Fresh oysters, award-winning wines, forest feasts, gourmet dinners and mouth-watering desserts will take centre stage when the Knysna Oyster Festival returns from 3 to 12 July, transforming this town into one of South Africa's premier food destinations.
Under this year's theme, "A Feast of Family Fun', the 2026 festival promises its biggest and most diverse culinary programme yet, with everything from oyster shucking championships and wine tastings to food markets, lagoon cruises, braai competitions and unforgettable dining experiences in the heart of the Knysna Forest.
At the centre of the festivities will be the Festival Hub at the Knysna High School sports fields, where the Oyster Alley will offer a feast of local flavours, artisan food stalls, family entertainment and live music throughout the festival.
One of the programme's headline attractions is the Stella Artois Oyster Cooking and Shucking Competition, during which some of the country's most talented oyster shuckers will battle for championship honours while visitors enjoy plenty of oyster-inspired entertainment.
Food lovers can also indulge in the ever-popular FeedmeSlowly Feast in the Forest experiences at Diepwalle.
These intimate Slow Food events showcase exceptional local produce against the spectacular backdrop of the Knysna Forest, creating one of the festival's signature dining experiences.
Wine enthusiasts are equally well catered for. The Knysna Fine Wine Festival returns to Simola Country Club & Spa with premium tastings, while additional wine experiences will be hosted throughout town.
Escape Wine Tasting at Blackwaters River Lodge, Blend Wine Tasting and Boards, and the Vintage & Wine Tasting Experience at Ekhaya African Cuisine offer visitors the opportunity to sample some of the country's finest wines.
The culinary programme extends well beyond oysters. Visitors can savour a four-course oyster-inspired dinner at île de Pain, enjoy a four-course Slow Food dinner at Grain Mill Bistro, cheer on contestants in the popular Robberg Fish Braai Competition, or satisfy their sweet tooth at the Dessert War Fair at the Festival Hub, where talented bakers will showcase their finest creations.
For those wanting to experience oysters the Knysna way, the Oyster Cruise aboard The Water Club pairs fresh oysters with MCC while cruising the lagoon, while Simola's Sip, Shuck & Spa experience combines fine food, relaxation and spectacular views.
Adding even more flavour are the Stella Artois Oyster Hotspots, where participating restaurants and eateries across Knysna will be serving oyster specials, signature dishes and festival promotions throughout the 10-day celebration.
"The Knysna Oyster Festival has always been about bringing people together, and food plays a central role in that. From oysters and wine to family favourites, local produce and unique dining experiences, this year's programme offers visitors countless opportunities to discover the flavours that make Knysna such a special destination," said Lungiswa Goya, Knysna Municipality's manager of economic development and the festival's spokesperson.
The full festival programme is available on www.knysnaoysterfestival.co.za, and visitors are encouraged to check it regularly as additional events and experiences continue to be added.
