KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna police station management acknowledged personnel that performed outstandingly during the past year at their annual year-end function that was hosted at the Forest Lodge on Wednesday, December 14. This event was attended by members of the police, their spouses and members of the Knysna CPF.
Members received awards in different categories as well as areas of expertise.
The following members received awards:
- Station Commander’s Award: Liezel Payle (administration)
- Best Detective Award: Warrant Officer Reginus Quine (investigation officer)
- Best Visible Policing Member in the Community Service Centre: Warrant Officer Andre Snyman
- Best Crime Prevention Member: Constable Warren Ackerman
- Best Visible Policing unit: Crime prevention unit
- Best Support Services Member: Steven Heasman (supply chain management)
- Best Sector Commander: Warrant Officer Francois Cowley (Sector 1)
- Detective branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Siddique Khan presented a special recognition to Warrant Officer Reginus Quine, an investigator at the branch. He received a commendation from the provincial office of the National Prosecuting Authority in the Western Cape.
The commendation related to the outstanding investigative work that was conducted in the premeditated robbery and murder of an elderly couple in Knysna on August 1, 2015.
The trial led to a conviction and sentencing of two terms of life imprisonment as well as a further 15-years-imprisonment.
“It is only correct to state that the successful prosecution of this matter was due to the hard work and cooperation of the investigation officer as well as every member who did their part in contributing to the investigation and trial preparation.”
Station commander Colonel Atwell Metu thanked the members for their contribution in the fight against crime and continued efforts in making Knysna safer. He also acknowledged the contributions made by the Knysna CPF, neighbourhood watches and community safety structures, as well as their achievement on being selected as the best CPF in the Western Cape.
“As management we want to encourage members to work hand-in-hand with the community. Service to our people and their safety remains high on our priority list," said Metu. "Let’s use the resources at our disposal to provide a professional service of high quality to the public. Enjoy the festive period and make safety everyone’s responsibility.”
Metu also commended the members who received awards for their commitment and outstanding achievements.
