KNYSNA NEWS - After a weekend of warm, humid weather, Knysna has been hit by very heavy rains that led to flooding of parts of the town today, Monday 20 February.
The storm surge heavily affected some of the town's infrastructure. Storm drains in the centre of Knysna are overflowing into the roads and flooding various parts of town, including Gordon Street.
Waterfront Drive has flooded too, opposite Caltex garage on the western side of town, as well as opposite Food Lover's Market and along several other points.
Traffic is being stopped on the eastern end of Waterfront Drive, at the intersection with the N2. Howard Street and other roads in Hunter's Home have also flooded.
Motorists are advised to take extreme caution when traveling around Knysna today and tonight.
The South African Weather Service earlier today issued a Yellow Level 1 Storm Surge warning, valid for today and tomorrow morning.
According to the warning they expect wave heights of between 4m and 5m, and wave periods of between 12 and 14 seconds, in addition to gale force winds.
They highlighted the possibility of a surge between high tide today, at 15:00 and tomorrow morning at 03:00.
