KNYSNA NEWS - Friday, 27 December will be a good day for ducks. No, there is no rain in the forecast!
It is the day of the great Quack Attack Rotary Duck Race, which will be held at 15:30.
Every year, since 2012, the Rotary Club of Knysna has sponsored the Splash Festival, which takes place at the Knysna Yacht Club and Knysna Waterfront.
It comprises three Open Water Swims that set out from the Knysna Yacht Club, and the Duck Race.
The Open Water Swims are distances of 3 000m, 1 600m or 500m and start 10:45, 12:00 and 13:00 respectively.
Entries
Entries are available online at www.knysnasplash.co.za or on race day at the Knysna Lofts (adjacent to the Yacht Club) from 8:00.
The Rotary Club of Knysna sells tickets for the legendary Duck Race.
Splash Festival... the start of an Open Water Swim.
You purchase a number which is written on a duck, and the rubber ducks are released into the water at the Knysna Quays to race to the finish line, which is just after the bridge at the Waterfront.
Funds for project
The proceeds from the Duck Race are primarily used to fund the Safe Swimming Project, a joint venture between the Little Sharks Swimming School, Knysna Aquatics and the Knysna Rotary Club, to train previously disadvantaged children to swim.
For many years, this programme has targeted the Knysna Sea Cadets, who need the swimming training as part of their programme. Recently, it has expanded to include pre-school children.
Get a duck
The ducks, which cost R60, are available for purchase from a Rotary member, online at www.knysnasplash.co.za or they can be bought at the Waterfront (near L’Opera Café) until Saturday 21 December from 09:00 to 13:00. They will also be for sale on race day, 27 December.
Best of luck with your duck! You could win a cash prize of R4 000, R2 000 or R1 000 - wouldn’t that be “just ducky!”
