PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Greenwood Bay College (GBC) is to build a new school hall and marked the historic milestone with a soil-turning ceremony, which was attended by representatives from its head office, AdvTech, on Tuesday 11 March.
Acting principal Jane Coetzer said the moment could not have come sooner.
'Official approval'
"After years of perseverance Greenwood Bay College is thrilled to announce the official approval for the expansion of its campus facilities - in this case specifically, our new GBC Hall," said Coetzer.
This "exciting moment" was commemorated with the ceremony, highlighting the beginning of a new chapter for the institution.
The ceremony featured head boy Keaton Bass and head girl Keona Hansen breaking the first ground - an act that will forever be a part of their legacy at GBC.
Also participating were AdvTech's managing director, Mike Aitken, and chief operating officer, Merice Roopram, who flew in from their headquarters to join the celebrations.
'Just the beginning'
"This expansion, which has been years in the making, is a testament to GBC's commitment to providing education in a nurturing and ever-evolving environment.
"The approval of the first building is just the beginning.
"The college is now eagerly awaiting approval for the next phase - an additional building that will house new classrooms and a science lab, a critical addition to meet the ever-growing demands of our academic programmes," said Coetzer.
'Greater opportunities'
"GBC is now poised to provide even greater opportunities for its students, reinforcing its position as a leader in education.
"We look forward to seeing the positive impact these new facilities will have on our students' academic journeys, creating an inspiring space for generations to come."
GBC, with about 440 pupils, is a progressive and dynamic school, with a focus on academics, personal growth, and community engagement.
It is a unique school with its own inherent charm.
GBC held its Open Day on Thursday 13 March for applications/admissions for 2026. Anyone interested can email GBC at Greenwood Bay College or contact the school at 0445332549.
