PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay police have issued a warning to residents after several incidents during which online vehicle buyers were duped out of large sums of money.
Local police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse said police are investigating several such cases. “In most cases the victims paid large amounts of money into unknown accounts without knowing the correct details of the seller,” Pieterse said.
She said to avoid being scammed, buyers should ensure that they see what they are purchasing before paying for it.
“Never provide your identity number to anyone online. Also, do not save your internet banking password on your computer and never leave your computer unattended after you have entered your internet banking details,” Pieterse said.
She added that one should always log off or sign off at the end of an internet banking session and avoid doing online banking in public areas.
