KNYSNA NEWS - The prize-giving of the Art for Humanity exhibition that adorned the Dischem Atrium in the Knysna Mall from 13 to 21 March was held on Tuesday 28 March.
Students from schools in the Knysna area created artworks that demonstrated their take on human rights issues that are dear to their hearts.
A silent auction was also held throughout with the profits going to the Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (Kilt).
The awards for highest bids were divided into three categories: Pre-primary, Primary School and High School. The winners of the Pre-primary category were Riverwood Primary and Stepping Stones. Concordia Primary School and Brackenhill Primary School were joint winners in the Primary School category and Knysna High School won the High School category.
Knysna Mall and Kilt partnered to organise the event as a fundraiser for Kilt, an NPO that provides support to schools in the greater Knysna area to improve teaching and learning and make school more enjoyable, safe, and exciting for learners.
The exhibition spoke of the hard work of the participating students and their schools' art departments.
Educators from Riverwood Primary Primary and Stepping Stones, Gale Rossini and Carrenne Sands, discussed the project that Riverwood Primary worked on as a team with all of the students in Grades R through 7. Rainbow Nation is the title of their art project, which was a joint effort by everybody in the group to compile a great mixed media project.
