KNYSNA NEWS - William Charlton-Perkins, a resident and amateur pianist, has recently penned his debut novel, Meetings with Mozart.
The novel is a captivating blend of Mozart's life and a modern tale rooted in the landscapes of eastern South Africa.
"Meetings with Mozart explores the timeless brilliance of the 18th-century composer through the lens of my own credo. The novel intertwines the highs and lows of Mozart's life, his fiery energy, sense of fun and prolific musical output," says Charlton-Perkins.
The story follows Horace, a retired opera director, who gathers a group of Mozart enthusiasts to uncover the composer's profound contribution to humanity and love.
Through their journey, the narrative weaves Mozart's legacy with the lives of present-day characters, creating a rich, evocative tale that resonates with heart and harmony.
Charlton-Perkins, who grew up in the Natal Midlands surrounded by his parents' passion for the arts, says he has long idolised Mozart.
"My love for his music began in childhood. The spark for Meetings with Mozart came unexpectedly through a Facebook post by an old friend, Joanne Smith, now a book editor in Perth, Australia. Jo's post about her new career prompted me to reach out.
"Within a week, I'd started writing. Jo was a Rolls-Royce of an editor, keeping me on track, and the manuscript seemed to write itself, " Charlton-Perkins recalls.
The novel has already garnered glowing praise nationwide, according to Charlton-Perkins.
