KNYSNA NEWS - The town of Knysna will come together on Friday 17 October to honour the life and service of retired Commander Steven Eriksen (SCC), who has received his final signal and crossed the bar.
Eriksen was a dedicated seafarer, mentor and leader who devoted his life to service through the Sea Cadet Corps and the broader maritime community.
During his time with TS Knysna Sea Cadets, he played a pivotal role in shaping the futures of countless young cadets.
His passion for mentoring youth and his commitment to discipline and leadership left an enduring legacy.
Beyond the cadet training programme, Eriksen worked closely with the navy, co-ordinating numerous activities and ensuring the cadets had opportunities to participate in high-profile events - notably during the Knysna Oyster Festival, where their presence became a source of community pride.
The Knysna municipal council has expressed its deepest condolences to Eriksen’s family and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
He will be remembered not only for his service, but also for the compassion, strength and dedication he brought to every role he held.
As the community stands to attention and pipes the still in his honour, they do so with gratitude for a life of service.
The service will be held at St George’s Anglican Church at 10:00 on Friday 17 October.
