Update
KNYSNA NEWS - A stretch of the N2 in Plettenberg Bay remains closed for a fourth day following the outbreak of riots on Thursday over unhappiness with the Qolweni housing project.
The Bitou Municipality this morning confirmed that the situation was calm at the moment, but that the road between the Shell garage and Kwanokuthula remained closed.
Qolweni residents started gathering on the national road on Thursday evening which saw them block the road with burning tyres, rocks and other debris.
While motorists could bypass the rioting by using Airport Road, this caused several problems, including trucks becoming stuck or breaking down while making their way up the very steep Odlands Drive, causing major traffic congestion.
There have also been reports of residents losing out on wages as they could not leave the area to get to work.
