PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - More than 200 residents have so far signed a petition to have the planned decontamination of high risk areas in Plettenberg Bay halted over safety concerns.
Plett Tourism chief executive Marius Venter this week announced that money had been raised to get a specialised team in to set off “foggers” and use a spray to decontaminate public and high-traffic areas.
Venter said the same product has been used around the globe, including China where Covid-19 originated and that it was an environmentally safe product. He said it was a proactive step in protecting the town against the novel Coronavirus.
"We, the people of Plett, hereby demand an immediate halt to the plan underway to fog parts of Bitou Municipal area allegedly to curb the spread of the Coronavirus until such time as proper and transparent consultation with credible and knowledgeable organisations, authorities and individuals has been conducted with a positive result (meaning that it is safe to proceed without harm to people, planet or animals)," the petition read.
The exercise is scheduled for 06:00 on Friday 27 March.
