PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – Plett's spirit of giving and opening up its purses has been lauded by the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) following a raffle held to raise funds for the association.
Nearly R20 000 was raised that will be used to clean and refurbish the licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras and update some software used by PBCPA.
The prize, a night in the honeymoon suite of Sky Villa, was sponsored by RAW Africa Boutique Collection's Paul Duverge who is also chairperson of Plettenberg Bay Tourism.
The prize is valued at more than R9 000 and was won by Soné Fourie.
"It just shows how much goodwill there is in Plett," said Ina Olivier, secretary of the PBCPA. "We are thankful for this. Every cent we raise in funds is ploughed back into ensuring Plett becomes crime free. Our vision since being established 13 years ago was and still is working with all security and emergency partners to the greater good of everyone in Bitou."
The next fundraising effort by the PBCPA will be to enhance the software of the LPR cameras, which will benefit not only Plett, but the entire Garden Route.
An example of the effectiveness of the cameras was the successes after a jewellery robbery in Plett Main Street in January, when the getaway car used by the robbers was spotted by LRP cameras and intercepted near Uniondale. Olivier is passionate about the PBCPA.
"It's not just a choice doing what we are doing. It is pure passion for our beautiful town and its people. The tremendous effort of what volunteers are doing and achieving is mind-blowing."
She also thanked other donors that included Nineteen 89 restaurant and Jack's Paint and Hardware.
