KNYSNA NEWS - Swift action by members of the Knysna police Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of a 51-year-old suspect who has been positively linked to the theft of a Toyota Fortuner that was stolen at a garage in Knysna at about 16:50 yesterday, Wednesday, 19 June.
Investigation reveals that the driver parked the vehicle at a garage situated in Waterfront Drive to pay a visit to the shop. Upon her return, she saw the vehicle leaving the courtyard, driving in the direction of George.
She immediately alerted authorities and a search ensued.
About half an hour later, members on patrol spotted the vehicle in Rose Bolton Street, after being alerted by vigilant operators in the CCTV control room that is manned by Allsound Security.
The vigilance of these operators led to the recovery of the vehicle and the subsequent arrest of the 51-year old suspect.
Further investigation and footage obtained from the CCTV control room positively linked the suspect to the commission of the offence.
The suspect faces a charge of theft of motor vehicle and will make his first court appearance in the Knysna Magistrates’ court once he had been charged.
The Station Commander of the Knysna SAPS, Colonel Atwell Metu, applauded the members for their dedication and commitment in pursuing the suspect and the recovery of the vehicle.
He also thanked Allsound Security and Neighbourhood Watch members that assisted the police in affecting the arrest and recovering the stolen vehicle.
