KNYSNA NEWS – Two Oakhill College learners, Jaden Wigg and Kathryn Brown, recently completed their Trinity Grade 7 practical examinations in music.
Trinity College London provides exams and awards qualifications in over 60 countries around the world. The highly regarded Trinity music exams have traditionally been held at Trinity exam centres countrywide, with Oakhill School registered as the centre for the Garden Route.
Due to Covid, however, the practical component of these exams was conducted online for the first time ever last year, with Jaden Wigg, then Grade 11, completing his practical in December.
The online examining has continued into 2021, and current Oakhill matric pupil Kathryn Brown has recently completed her Trinity Grade 7 practical examination with merit online. Both Jaden and Kathryn are doing music as an additional (8th) subject and achieved the matric IEB practical requirements by passing the Trinity Grade 7 exam.
This is an incredible feat for Kathryn as she only started music as an official subject in Grade 10, and has managed to cover seven practical and six theory exams in two-and-a-half years.
The theory component of the exam was written on Saturday 8 May, and the Grade 12 students still await their results. Many Oakhill music students in other grades are currently preparing to do their practical and theory exams at the end of the year.
