PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - As part of a clampdown on sexual crime suspects, the George family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit arrested six people over the Easter weekend, including a man from Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay who allegedly violated a woman while she was sleeping.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said the team was dispatched to Kwanokuthula on Sunday 4 April and arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a rape the previous day.
"It is alleged that the 30-year-old victim had visited her boyfriend in Hani Street, Kwanokuthula on Saturday 3 April. She fell asleep and was awoken by the suspect at about 01:00 the next morning when she discovered he had violated her," Spies said.
It is believed that the suspect lives in the victim's boyfriend's home.
Five other unrelated arrests were made in connection with sexual offences in Zone 8 in Thembalethu, George and Knysna.
Spies said all the suspects will remain behind bars until they appear in various courts across the region in coming days.
