KNYSNA NEWS - November is fast approaching, which means… the Leisure Isle Festival – our seventeenth!
Faithful stallholders know the ropes and have been quick to book their stalls. Exciting new stalls and events are also being introduced.
Of great significance for our community is that, at this year’s festival, we are strongly encouraging all stallholders to refrain from using single-use plastics. And we are planning to be free of these plastics by 2020. This ties in with the amazing work being done by the Knysna Basin Project, and they will be showing off the variety of life you can find along the shores and below the waterline in the Knysna estuary.
They will also run their annual Treasure Hunt through the festival grounds.
In keeping with environmental themes, Steenbok Nature Reserve has produced an educational book on mammals, birds and plants found in this area, together with a quiz which you can take part in at their stall.
This is a total family day with lots more on offer for young people. Queen Bee preschool will be offering a variety of activities including craft tables where the kids can learn how to make Christmas cards and decorations.
There will also be sand art, face painting, hair colouring, tombola and delicious eats for all. So the kids can be entertained and the parents can mingle through interesting things. Come and enjoy the food stalls, music and beer tavern.
Sadly, due to regulations beyond our control, dogs are not allowed in areas serving food so please bring leads (and bags) so that you can visit all the other stalls and include your dogs in the fun day.
The organising committee has selected the following charities and community projects as beneficiaries this year: Knysna Sedgefield Hospice, Vermont Old Age Home; Knysna Animal Welfare; The e'Pap Feeding Scheme; Loeriehof Old Age Home; Steenbok Nature Reserve; Hands & Hearts – Emdeni; and Knysna Sea Cadets. Your support will be appreciated by them.
We all know this festival is now an integral part of Knysna annual events so mark it in your diary, stick it on your fridge door or tap it into your smartphone! The date: 3 and 4 November at the festival grounds, Kingsway Park, Leisure Isle.
