KNYSNA NEWS - The special council meeting at the Knysna Council chambers started just after 09:00 this morning (Wednesday October 25) with the speaker welcoming the packed gallery.
Today’s meeting revolves around firstly, a vote of no confidence in the deputy mayor Peter Myers by the DA caucus and then a vote of no confidence in the mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies and speaker Georlene Wolmarans brought by the ANC.
Today’s meeting, which is packed with many spectators wearing black, is anticipated to bring changes in the makeup of council.
The reasons furnished for the first motion in the official agenda for this meeting is, “ That the majority of councillors have no confidence in the serving deputy mayor of the council [Peter Myers].”
The second motion brought by the ANC Ward 8 councillor Victor Molosi is for the removal of speaker and DA PR councillor Georlene Wolmarans and mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies DA Ward 5 councillor.
No reasons are submitted for the second motion on the agenda, which states that after the removal of the councillors “the election of a new speaker and executive mayor must be conducted.”
The removal of the speaker and executive mayor and the filling of the vacancies will be held in secret while the first vote, regarding Myers, will not.
