KNYSNA NEWS - On Monday 30 April, Knysna Montessori School celebrated its first Alumni Evening, a reunion of matric students from the past 10 years, for the school's 21st anniversary.
Past students and parents arrived from far and near. There was much hugging and rejoicing as they met with each other and their previous teachers and exchanged news of their achievements as medical students, engineers, bankers, new mothers, graphic designers, hotel managers, head chefs and more.
The evening began with champagne and a short welcome assembly, after which the Montessori family gathered at flower-decorated tables in the junior quad, to continue celebrating and exchanging news over a magnificent braai and accompanying assortment of salads, breads and fruit desserts, all beautifully prepared and put together by hostel staff.
Absent friends were toasted in short speeches from head directress Sonia Heaton and the local school's founder Taddy Beyleveld. Tyron Evans, head boy of the school's first group of matriculants in 2008 (who began his Montessori schooling at the age of 18 months!) and Lucas Liepner (who attended the school since its inception) also addressed the gathering and there was much good-natured teasing and laughter.
The evening was very successful, and a happy reflection of the Montessori philosophy of manners, courtesy and grace, and a thoroughly good time was had by all.
