PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Good Samaritans in Plettenberg Bay have ensured that a local family has a roof over their heads as temperatures start to plummet.
Said local resident Marius Venter, "A few people approached me about a Qolweni family living in terrible conditions. A father and his five young children were pretty much living in a structure made from mud and sticks. There were holes in the structure all over the place. They had barely any shelter against the elements."
When he went to inspect the structure, another local, Mike Scholtz, passed by and enquired about the family. "On the spot we decided that we needed to do something to help."
Digging into their own pockets the two started making plans to build a structure for the family to ensure they could survive the winter.

Venter said Robberg Quarry and Readymix donated concrete for the floors and after acquiring the necessary materials, neighbours and friends gave up their time and talents to assist in the build. The father and his children also jumped in to help.
"They made quick work of it and by Thursday the family could move in."
In the meantime, residents had also donated several items to make living more bearable, including mattresses and blankets.
"It was overwhelming to see everyone jump in and help their fellow man," Venter said.
