PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - With the tourism industry currently in a dire situation as a result of Covid-19 lockdown regulations, Plettenberg Bay locals have launched an initiative to assist those affected by it and hope to spread the idea across the country.
Cape Summer Villas, of which Sky Villa in Plett is a part, has launched an initiative dubbed the #TeeOfff4Tourism Golf Day.
Cape Summer Villas general manager Paul Duverge said the prime goal of the initiative is to raise funds for the procurement of food parcels for Plettenberg Bay hospitality workers.
"Many of them are sole breadwinners. With so much uncertainty surrounding the Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (Ters), many families within the sector are without an income - there is little to no work right now due to hospitality businesses being unable to open, while those that are trying to operate, have little to zero income due to restrictions on leisure travel and the prohibition of alcohol sales," Duverge said.
