Just after 11:00 on Friday morning, firefighters were alerted of a fire on the roof of the building. According to bystanders, they were on the scene within minutes and brought the situation under control, thus preventing the potential disaster of a fire spreading to other shops.
Knysna's municipal manager Grant Easton said on Monday, April 20, "Smoke could be seen coming from the restaurant's chimney. Upon investigation, the fire crew discovered that the source of the smoke was fat smouldering in the chimney. The chimney shaft was opened and cleared by the fire department. Fortunately no persons were harmed and no damage was done to the building or its contents."
The restaurant remained open and continued with business as usual.
