SEDGEFIELD NEWS - A man's body was found in Swartvlei Lake near Sedgefield on Saturday morning 5 January after he went fishing with his three children aged 16, seven and five.
Mogamad Fahried Adams (46) took his children out on a small rented boat at Pine Lake Marina on Friday afternoon while they were on holiday visiting friends.
When they had not returned by nightfall, Adams' wife and friends raised the alarm and other residents started searching with jet skis. According to NSRI Wilderness deputy station commander Mike Vonk, the children were found at 20:30 while they were swimming to shore. Only the five-year-old boy was wearing a life jacket.
"The children said the boat they were on capsized and after they lost sight of their dad they started swimming to shore," he said.
At 21:45 the NSRI and other emergency services were alerted and an extensive water and shoreline search commenced. Adams' body was found at 02:00 on Saturday morning.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
