KNYSNA NEWS - An Emjudweni, Knysna man was arrested last month for brutally assaulting his two children.
The children aged three and five were admitted to Knysna Provincial Hospital after their father's arrest on 19 January.
The 30-year-old suspect is facing charges of assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm.
Knysna police spokes-person Sergeant Chris Spies said the man was arrested following reports by members of the community that the man had allegedly assaulted the two boys with a stick.
The man appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on 21 January and was released on a warning.
Spies said the children were handed into the care of their biological mother after their release from hospital.
The father's neighbours in the area, which is adjacent to Concordia, who wish to remain anonymous, say all they know about the children is that they were always locked away inside his house with just water and rice.
One said they have never seen the children play outside and that all they heard each day were their tormenting screams once their father came back from work, which is what eventually led them to reporting the matter to the police.
This case was postponed to 21 February for further investigation.
