KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality's Director of Infrastructure Services, Pravir Hariparsad, is in self-isolation at home after testing positive for Covid-19.
According to a press release issued by the municipality, Hariparsad started to develop flu-like symptoms over the weekend and immediately arranged to be tested to determine the cause of the symptoms on Monday.
Being a type 2 diabetic, Hariparsad is also at higher risk for the illness.
The municipality immediately took the required steps and closed the Infrastructure Services offices in Church Street until further notice.
This is an important responsibility for Council to undertake. 'Close contacts' have also been requested to self-quarantine. This means that they must stay at home and may not make contact with other people. The municipality’s OHS division is assisting the Health Department at the Knysna Provincial Hospital and the Covid-19 Command Centre with the screening process.
Knysna Executive Mayor Elrick van Aswegen extended his best wishes to Hariparsad. "I wish Mr Hariparsad strength and a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during difficult time. By working together we can make sure we beat this pandemic," van Aswegen concluded.
Having been in close contact with the Hariparsad on Friday, the Mayor and Acting Municipal Manager will continue to self-isolate until further notice.
