KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Education Trust (KET) received well-deserved recognition at the SABC's inaugural African Education Awards ceremony held in Johannesburg last week.
At the ceremony at the Gallagher Convention Centre on Wednesday, July 1, KET was received the title of NGO of the Year for inspiring others, pushing boundaries and achieving growth in education in Africa.
“This accolade is a true testament to the dedication and commitment of our team of five ladies and six board members, especially considering the size and calibre of the peer organisations we were competing against,” said Nicola Goodall, director at KET, when well-known radio personality Gareth Cliff handed her the award.
Goodall said on Monday, July 6: “The implementation of projects which comprise all the essential elements needed to ensure optimal development, growth and learning in young children is at the root of KET’s efforts. It is this approach that was the key to KET winning this award. All KET’s projects, which are strategically planned to ensure maximum use of resources, are implemented to significantly benefit the children we serve.”
Goodall concluded, “KET would like to say a huge thank you to all our educators, volunteers, supporters and donors who have been pivotal in our organisation’s success. You are really making a difference in the lives of so many children!”
The award winners were:
- Supplier of the Year - Basic Education: One On One Community Based Programmes;
- Supplier of the Year - Higher Education: TSiBA Education NPC;
- Supplier of the Year - Early Childhood Development: Clamber Club;
- Supplier of the Year - Special Needs: Sensory Solutions.
- Supplier of the Year - Information and Communication Technologies: Edit Microsystems;
- Supplier of the Year - Innovative Product Award: The Reach Trust, Department of Basic Education and UNICEF;
- Environment Award: Collect-a-Can;
- Community project of the Year: SpellAfrica Initiative (Nigeria);
- NGO of the Year: Knysna Education Trust;
- Future Star Award: Mapule Mofokeng, CTI Randburg student.
