The accident occurred around 12:00 today when the German tourists reportedly attempted to turn from the N2 into Waterfront Drive at the traffic lights, most likely presuming right of way.
Their vehicle collided with the white Nissan bakkie of Johannes and Rachel Kamfer travelling to Knysna town from Hornlee. Two stationary vehicles, a white Toyota Auris (waiting to turn right towards Knysna KwikSpar) and EMS ambulance 209 (waiting to turn left into town), were at the traffic light at the intersection at the top of Waterfront Drive when the tourists' rented Hyundai came toward.
It would appear that due to the impact with the Nissan bakkie, the Hyundai spun around, smashed its rear-end into the front of the Toyota and dented the side of the EMS ambulance before coming to a standstill. The German lady appeared to be in pain and both she and Rachel Kamfer had their necks secured in braces before being transported to hospital.
The driver of the Toyota (a company car), Sabath Abie Maduna and his wife both complained of hurt knees, but otherwise did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries.
