Advertorial
BUSINESS NEWS - Legacy House, the first independent school in Plettenberg Bay to receive accreditation from the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), is entrenching itself as a leader in academic excellence and innovation on the Garden Route.
"The IEB accreditation is a milestone and is also more than a formal registration," says Samantha Thomas, managing director and experienced education professional.
"It reflects the vision, hard work, and values that continue to drive us: integrity, individual attention, and a commitment to preparing students - not just for exams, but for life," says Thomas.
World-class education
She says Legacy House sets itself apart with its team of exceptional teachers, all of who bring extensive local and international teaching experience to the classroom.
With academic backgrounds that include doctoral-level science, international postings in the Middle East, and advanced degrees in education, the staff offer students a world-class education, grounded in passion and expertise.
Thomas herself has an honours degree in English education and brings more than two decades of teaching and leadership experience to the school.
What distinguishes Legacy House from other schools is its problem-based, real-world learning approach. Education at Legacy House is not confined to the classroom.
"For example, learners apply mathematical theory by measuring the Beacon Island footbridge using trigonometry, and explore a range of interests through engaging Friday sessions that include everything from jazz and gardening to digital design and even conspiracy theory deconstruction. This kind of learning fosters curiosity, resilience, and critical thinking - the core skills young people need in an ever-changing world," says Thomas.
100% matric pass rate
Legacy House is also defined by its small class sizes and high-impact academic support. Every learner is known by name, and individual attention is not an ideal - it's a daily reality.
This personalised approach has resulted in a 100% matric pass rate to date and continues to draw families seeking a nurturing, yet academically rigorous environment for their children.
Confidence
The school is also committed to the broader community.
Throughout the year, Legacy House has offered free Saturday maths support to any learners in the region, regardless of the school they attend.
During winter, the school runs an intensive academic preparation programme for Grade 12 students from across the Garden Route, helping them tackle their final exams with confidence.
In 2025, Legacy House will also offer IEB Further Studies subjects, such as Further Studies mathematics and English, to learners from the school and the wider community.
On Friday 1 August, Legacy House will host its own National Benchmark Test (NBT) session on campus, after being granted special permission - a rare privilege for a school of its size, which affirms its growing academic reputation.
Applications
"At Legacy House, we believe that education should be relevant, rigorous and deeply human," says Thomas. "Our students are not just preparing to pass - they are preparing to lead, to create, and to thrive."
Applications for 2026 are now open.
For those seeking a school that combines excellence, innovation, and true care for each learner, Legacy House is the place to be. The future is here. The future is Legacy House.
