My condolences to all who lost their houses in the Knysna fire. It's a tragedy.
Just a proposal: all current "hop" houses for low income are being built out of town. Far far away. Council own many hectares of land in town. I see nothing wrong with it. Let the houses be built in town.
For instance, the open land next to Yellowwood flats. It used to be at one stage a mashie golf course. Stop seeing colour. Let's unite the nation. On the open land next to Yellowwood flats, 55 RDP houses can be built for all races. Okay, the rich will go to court again to stop it. Like what they did trying to stop the mosque in Rawson Street. The majority wants the mosque. The mosque is welcome. To council – be the first council to build RDP houses in town.
The open land in Waterfront Drive next to Child Welfare can accommodate 75 houses. The current building of RDP houses is based on skin colour/race.
Please stop that. Stop building residential areas based on skin colour. We all know Orania, Afrikaner homeland. They are legal, according to the Constitution. Self-reliance. In Knysna there are several "Oranias", like Thesen Island, Simola etc – homelands for the rich to keep others out.
