KNYSNA NEWS - Caylin Kungawo "Kaydak" Jonas, a rising Hip-Hop musician from Nekkies in Knysna, has put out his eight-song debut extended play (EP) titled Going Hard. Jonas started working on the EP in June last year and released it at the end of December.
The 22-year-old former Gauteng College sound engineering student features local artists in his new work and believes the EP will motivate people to remain positive during the Covid pandemic.
"Within less than four weeks since I released the EP, it has become popular in Knysna and people have started downloading the music and some asking me to share the songs," he said.
He said the EP is one of the best things he has done in his life.
"My favourite song in the EP is the title track Going Hard. The song represents my own style of rapping and sends a positive message. My type of music is a mixture of Hip-Hop with rap music. We focus on our voices, structure, tone and we follow the style," he said.
Jonas fell in love with music in 2017.
"I was inspired by a local musician known as Woody Woke, who has been in the music industry for years and has done well here in Knysna. Since then I have released singles working together with my friends, but this is a major deal for me," he said.
In 2019, Caylin went to Johannesburg where he studied sound engineering, but he returned to Knysna in March last year because of lockdown. "My parents had no money to send me back to school, but I decided to continue with my music," he said.

During lockdown he decided to record music in order to stay positive. "I did these songs to motivate young people and change their mood so that they don't drown in sorrow."
He said Nekkies is a rough neighbourhood and growing up in such a place exposed him to all sorts of things.
"Young people are smoking drugs and people are stabbing each other. My aim is to have a united area where young people stop using drugs and focus on building their careers."
People can listen to his songs on audio max, and he is working on getting his songs on other digital platforms.
"Songs like Versatile, Ispani, Do what I do and Going Hard will keep you at the edge of your seat," said Jonas.
He thanked his close friend and producer Christopher Picasso, also known as Don Picasso, for helping him achieve his goal.
