GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Six years after the idea was first conceptualised, the Get Lucky Summer took Knysna and Plett by storm over the December break, with shows in Knysna for the very first time.
While Ben Peters – member of GoodLuck, who hold the main residency in the Get Lucky Summer series – didn't grow up in Plettenberg Bay, he would spend holidays in Plettenberg Bay and would spend his time gazing upon the lawn at the Beacon Isle Hotel hoping to one day play a gig at the location. This dream finally became a reality for Peters when, in 2013, he was able to conceptualise and get the Get Lucky Summer series going in Plett.
With GoodLuck the headline act at every series every year, the summer concert series has grown from strength to strength, and the latest offering was their biggest season yet.
For the first time in its history, GoodLuck expanded to Cape Town, Hermanus, and finally, Knysna. The 2019/20 series kicked off in Cape Town on 8 December with performances from GoodLuck, Craig Lucas, Jimmy Nevis, and No Method.
After getting the Cape tapping their feet, it was time for the series to make its move to the Garden Route for the remainder of the 2019/20 season (bar one show in Hermanus on 28 December).
The concert series would see nine shows played in Knysna and Plett between 15 December and 5 January, including a huge New Year's Eve celebration that featured a joint concert with GoodLuck and Goldifsh in Plett and Knysna.
The shows featured the likes of Jeremy Loops, Goldfish, Rubber Duc, The World of Birds, Biggy, Matthew Mole, Just Dru, Timo ODV, and The Kiffness, with thousands of fans turning out over the course of the series.
People in the audience had a blast at the New Year's Eve party.
The Kiffness was as always a master of the crowd when on stage in Plett.
Juliet 'Jules' Harding led GoodLuck with phenomenal vocals throughout the series.
